Walkingtours is the creation of Janet Morice,
Andrew Starr and Lee McGurren
Jan is a teacher and social historian. Her first book Six-bob-a-Day Tourist (Penguin 1986) is the story of her family's involvement in WW1.
Andrew is a heritage consultant and art historian. He will commence a doctoral degree in heritage policy and the commercial world in 2006.
Together Jan and Andrew wrote Paddington Stories, a social history of Paddington which was published in 2000. The book was inspired by the rapid change Jan and Andrew saw in the suburb, and they wanted to capture the stories of residents before they were lost. Over 100 oral histories were recorded for the project with residents both past and present, which have been purchased by the Mitchell Library, and form the only comprehensive oral history collection of an inner Sydney suburb.
Paddington Stories was awarded a Commendation in the prestigious Heritage Awards of The National Trust of Australia in 2001 and can be purchased through our store
Jan and Andrew were approached by the Historic Houses Trust of NSW to conduct walks for members. Their approach to the walks is one that emphasises the social history of each area.
This Website was constructed by Lee McGurren with the help of the Open Source E-Commerce solution OSCommerce. Lee is a Senior Creative for a global promotions agency as well as a freelance web designer and whose work can be seen at www.leemcgurren.com
Additional voices have been provided by two of Australia's leading actors, Tara Morice and Geoff Morrell. The illustrations throughout the site were created by Sydney based artist Cheryl Orsini
